LinkedIn added recording options to help with pronunciation
Sometimes you come across a name but are not sure how to pronounce it. LinkedIn decided to solve this problem by adding the ability to upload audio from your name to your profile.
Have you ever seen someone's name in writing and found yourself unsure of the correct pronunciation? Correct pronunciation is not only a courtesy, but also an important part of getting a good first impression and creating an inclusive workplace. That's why we decided to offer "this feature allows you to choose how to pronounce shared names," wrote Joseph akoni, a LinkedIn product manager, on his blog.
Currently, voice recording is limited to LinkedIn IOS and Android apps; at least for now, it's not for desktop users. The LinkedIn help center provides complete details on how to save audio on Android or IOS. On the same help page, it points out that the recording time should not exceed 10 seconds. It is recommended that you keep your phone about 4 inches away from your face, speak slowly, and limit background noise as much as possible.
After saving the recording, a small speaker icon should appear on the LinkedIn page to the right of your name. Click this button to play back the recording, and now everyone can easily find the name they want to pronounce directly to you.
If you don't have the option to record audio, don't worry. LinkedIn will slowly roll out the feature globally "in the next month," so it should be available soon. It's also optional, so if you have a name that's easy to pronounce, or if you like to let others make an effort to decide how to pronounce your name, let them keep guessing.
