Samsung beat Xiaomi to become the first smartphone market in Asia
According to counterpoint research, after two consecutive years of ranking second, Samsung finally beat Xiaomi to become India's largest smartphone brand. In the smartphone market here, Samsung showed a slight year-on-year growth of 32%, beating Xiaomi.
Counterpoint reports that Samsung gained 24% market share in the third quarter of 2020, compared with 23% for Xiaomi. The two brands are closely followed by vivo, realme and oppo, with 17%, 16% and 8% market share respectively.
According to the research report, Samsung's "strong performance" in the third quarter of 2020 is due to the brand's multiple strategies, including an effective supply chain and the ability to reach multiple price points due to a range of new products.
The report also pointed out that Samsung's aggressive online "is the highest online contribution in its product portfolio ever" and helped Samsung regain its No.1 position in the market.
