Xiaomi shows effective 5W long-distance space charging within "several meters"

Like Wi Fi, the concept of charging devices in a certain range by charging "base station" has been tried for a long time. Taking PI published in 2017 as an example, it can theoretically charge up to 5 Qi devices with a total power of up to 10W within a radius of about 30cm. But so far, this kind of technology has not really entered the mainstream market, one of the reasons is that the effective charging range is too small. It seems that the new scheme presented by Xiaomi earlier today has solved this problem better.

According to the official statement, Xiaomi's self-developed scheme can carry out millisecond level spatial positioning of mobile phones within the range of "several meters" by relying on a phase control array composed of five phase interference antennas and 144 antennas built in the charging pile, and transmit millimeter waves to the beacon antenna of mobile phones through beamforming, so as to achieve a maximum of 5W Long distance space charge (whether it is based on Qi standard or not is not stated officially). From the demonstration film, the scope of "several meters" can be understood as the size of the living room. In the past, some scenes such as mobile phones moving, foreign objects blocking, multi device charging at the same time and so on were not applicable. Xiaomi's solution was also competent.

Xiaomi claims that it has 17 related technology patents, and plans to apply the technology to more wearable and IOT devices other than mobile phones, so as to realize the real "living room wireless". However, the specific mass production plan has not been determined at present. If it can be realized, it will greatly promote the popularization of smart home products.
