Apple sends hacked iPhones to security experts
Security experts participating in the apple security research device (SRD) program will soon receive intruded iPhones. These gadgets should help find and close new vulnerabilities in IOS.
The smartphone designed for this program works exactly the same as the standard smartphone. The only difference is that they give security researchers more access to the system, which will help them use any tools they need to find any vulnerabilities.
Researchers will test SRD phones for 12 months (which can be extended). If the error is contained in third-party code, they must report any vulnerabilities detected on the device under test, apple or a developer. Companies that find holes in IOS are willing to pay up to $1.5 million.
Apple first announced the plan in July. Its purpose is to help improve the security of all IOS users.
