Google cloud disk offline access extended to all file types
Google cloud hard disk provides a convenient way to store files in the cloud so that they can be accessed anywhere, but only Google's own file types can be edited offline using web applications. However, offline access is expanding to include all files.
From April this year, G suite users can save and edit Google documents, forms and slides offline, according to Android police. This means that if you don't have an Internet connection, you can continue to work on these files. However, you cannot mark other file types for offline access unless you choose to use the backup & sync desktop client.
The latest g suite beta uses web applications to extend offline saving and editing capabilities for all other file types, including PDF, Microsoft office documents, images, and any other files you want to mark as accessible offline. Currently, this new feature is limited to organizations registered with the G suite beta program, but Gmail users can use it as long as offline access is enabled.
While offline access to all file types is good news, Google still limits it to chrome users. If Google really wants everyone to use Google drive and G suite, then it does need to open all features to all web browsers, rather than trying to force chrome in this way.
