The U.S. will cut H1-B visas for skilled workers by a third
According to Marketwatch, citing the Associated Press, the Trump administration announced a plan to significantly restrict visas for overseas skilled workers on Tuesday. Officials said that this is a priority in the case of job losses caused by the new crown epidemic.
Officials from the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Labor said the new rules known as the H1-B program will restrict who can obtain work visas and will impose additional wage requirements on companies seeking to hire foreign workers.
Ken Cuccinelli, Acting Deputy Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, said that under the new rules, about one-third of applicants for H1-B visas in recent years will be rejected. The new rules will also include restrictions on the number of professional occupations available under the program.
