Hyundai Kona Electric has a risk of fire

Hyundai stated that the Kona Electric recalled are models manufactured between September 2017 and March 2020. The North American market accounts for 11,137 units, the European market has 37,366 units, and other countries such as China and India also have approximately 3,000 units. As for Kona Electric that shipped after March this year, there is no need to recall it because the battery management system has been updated once.
Kona Electric has been on sale since 2017. In the first 8 months of this year, Kona Electric sold 31,909 units in the global market, second only to Tesla Model 3 and Renault Zoe, and is the third most popular electric car in the world. Including the number of domestic recalls, Hyundai recalled a total of about 77,000 vehicles this time. In addition to fire accidents in South Korea, similar situations occurred in Canada and Austria in July and September last year.
After investigating the fire scene, the South Korean authorities believed that the battery produced by LG Chemical was defective in production and caused a short circuit. However, the LG side denied the allegations and stated that the specific cause has not been ascertained and should not conclude that the battery is defective at this stage.
