5G network construction has not caught up! U.S. fruit fans struggle to play the new iPhone speed
Apple Inc. will hold its second press conference this year on Tuesday (13th) US time. The outside world is expected to officially announce a new generation of iPhone 12 that supports 5G. If American consumers think that the new mobile phone can make a huge change in wireless Internet speed, expectations may fall. Mainly because US operators are still building their own 5G networks, the country’s existing networks cannot match the performance of 5G mobile phones.
According to data from Opensignal, which tracks the speed of global wireless networks, so far, 5G download speeds in the United States are only 1.8 times faster than 4G LTE.
In fact, there are 3 different versions of 5G connections, each of which uses a different radio frequency, each with its own advantages and different speeds. The ultimate goal of American operators is to create all three different 5G networks in the next two to three years. However, reports indicate that so far, no US operator has connected all three different types of 5G to its commercial network.
As for the "national 5G" coverage that US operators boasted in their advertisements, it refers to low frequency bands. Although its speed is faster than 4G networks, it is still the slowest 5G network. The mid-frequency band is currently the most common 5G network in the world, but it has not been widely built in the United States.
American telecommunications giant AT&T and T-Mobile, the third largest telecommunications company in the United States, provide low-band 5G services in many different regions and states. Among them, T-Mobile announced in the advertisement that it can be used in all 50 states.
However, users have seen the least improvement in network speed in low-frequency 5G, and if only low-frequency bands are available, it may not be worthwhile for consumers to upgrade to 5G phones.
